Tom was responsible for the worldwide sales for NetApp from 1994-2000 as NetApp grew from 0-$1B in revenue. Promoted to President in 2000, Tom helped lead the company through the dotcom bust, and was named Vice Chairman in 2008. Since the beginning of his tenure with NetApp, Tom has been instrumental in developing and nurturing NetApp’s globally recognized culture.

In 2009 NetApp was named by Fortune Magazine as the #1 company to work for in the US. More recently, they ranked #3 on the Great Place to Work Institute’s list of the “World’s Best Multinational Workplaces 2012.” In fact, 2013 marks NetApp’s eleventh year on the FORTUNE “100 Best” list, and the seventh year in the top 15 best places to work list in the U.S. It is one of the few companies in the Fortune 500 that is also in the Top 10 in Fortune’s Great Places to Work.

Throughout the past decade Tom has had the honor of sharing his philosophies on leadership and the power of corporate culture to diverse groups such as The US Marine Corps, West Point, and the Mossad. He was featured at Oracle’s Leaders Circle as well as delivered keynotes to Oracle Open World and numerous other industry and corporate events. Stanford University has conducted several case studies on NetApp and invited Tom to lecture to the business school students for the past 15 years. He has also had the honor of addressing university audiences all over the world.

In 2009, Tom and then NetApp CEO Dan Warmenhoven, were the co-recipients of the Morgan Stanley Leadership Award for Global Commerce—the first time the award was co-presented to two individuals.

Tom is especially proud of the close association he has with Notre Dame University. A particularly rewarding moment came in September 2000 when they renamed their business school the “Mendoza College of Business,” after an endowment from Tom Mendoza and Kathy Mendoza.

Tom holds a BA from Notre Dame, and is an alumnus of Stanford’s Executive Business Program.
